Clinics

Clinics by stroke, starts and turns

One focus an evening. Coaches teach it, swimmers practice it, and the level check decides where to begin.

  • All levels

    Freestyle

Body line, a kick that holds the stroke together, and breathing to both sides. Coaches work from the deck, then in the water beside each lane.

  • All levels

    Backstroke

Head position, rotation from the hips and a steady kick. The turn at the flags is practiced on its own before it joins the stroke.

  • Stroke combinations

    Breaststroke

The order of pull, breathe, kick and glide, and the two-hand touch at the wall. Kick sets with and without a board.

  • Stroke combinations

    Butterfly

Rhythm from the chest, two kicks to every pull and a low breath. Short repeats with rest, so the stroke stays together.

  • Starts and turns

    Starts

Set position, entry and the first kicks, practiced from the deck first. A coach is beside the lane for every start.

  • Starts and turns

    Turns

Open turns and flip turns, and the streamline off every wall. Each clinic ends with push-offs.

What families ask first

How do I know which level to start in?

Every swimmer starts with a level check: a short swim of each stroke while a coach watches. The coach suggests a level, and the swimmer and parent decide together.

What is a clinic?

One evening and one focus: a stroke, a start or a turn. Coaches teach it from the deck and in the water, and swimmers practice it in short sets.

Can my swimmer join while on a team?

Yes. Most of our swimmers swim for a high school or a club, and clinics fit around team practices. Tell us what your team coach is working on and we will start there.

What should my swimmer bring?

A swimsuit or swim shirt, a cap, goggles, a towel and a water bottle. Boards, pull buoys and fins are ours.

Where do parents watch?

From the bleachers on the deck, or from the lobby. We ask that a parent or guardian can be reached by phone during every clinic.

How does tuition work?

It depends on the level, the block and how many evenings a week a swimmer attends. We are glad to talk the current block through by phone.
